| The longevity of inkjet prints is often an issue when considering
purchasing an artwork made this way. Older generation inkjet prints
made with dye based inks and printed onto resin coated papers are
certainly susceptible to fading. However, I have plenty of these older
generation prints which are surviving very well. The key to preserving
these prints is to restrict exposure to light and atmosphere. Prints
mounted behind glass show no discernible fading, even after a number of
years. Dye ink prints on matte media are more durable still.
My current prints are made using pigment based inks and should resist
fading much better than conventional colour photographic prints. Black
and white prints should be truly archival in permanence. Nonetheless, if
you intend to display your print, I strongly recommend that you do so in a
glazed frame. |
